About the Art

This illustration was created as a methods figure depicting two photoplethysmography (PPG) techniques. Light is scattered throughout tissue, during which light particles will reflect off of blood vessels and other tissues. The reflected light is detected with a photodetector, allowing for continuous blood pressure monitoring. This illustration depicts a modified subcutaneous system to allow for more accurate, consistent subcutaneous monitoring of blood pressure.
